Hashtags can be used to complement photos shared on Instagram and help you discover new accounts and pick up followers. Some hashtags were created specifically for Instagram photo challenges — #ThrowbackThursday, for example, encourages users to post retro photos. Or, in USAREC's case, #FitnessFriday; to encourage users to upload fitness related photos/videos. (As seen below)
To include hashtags on your pictures, simply choose what picture you want to upload, choose your filter (and other edits), and on the next screen you will see where it asks you to type a caption for your picture. That is where you type whichever hashtag you'd like. For example, #ThrowbackThursday.

If you want to search for a user, make sure the "Users" tab is highlighted in white, as seen below, and then type in the person's username. |
To search for photos that have been tagged with a certain hashtag, make sure the "Hashtag" tab is highlighted in white, then just type whatever is it you are looking for. For example, search "FitnessFriday".
*Tip: You don't need to use the symbol "#" when searching, also the search function is not case sensitive. |
